The challenge
The idea to run a mentoring program came out of an executive meeting the Department of Defense (DoD) had held internally to address the concern that some staff were being left behind in advancing their careers. The Department also discussed what successful organisations look like. The decision was made to establish a mentoring program.
The DoD chose CCE as two employees had previously attended Eleanor Shakiba’s Mentoring Workshops in December 2019, recommending the course as high-quality and suitable for their purposes.
Our solution
CCE worked with Eleanor Shakiba to customise her Mentoring Skills for Leaders Course to meet the requirements of the DoD, and to assist in the end goal of creating an ongoing Mentoring Program. Eleanor delivered the course to 15 DoD staff in July 2020.
The outcome
In response to the positive feedback received on the course, the Department of Defence is currently launching a comprehensive mentoring program to allow all staff to both mentor and get the most out of being a mentee.
The DoD are planning to run another one-day Mentoring Skills Training Course with Eleanor for those that could not attend the first course.
"There was a lot of positive feedback after the online training and a Mentoring Program will be fully launched shortly. We see it as an important aspect of being successful as an organisation"
