The challenge
Multibillion-dollar consultancy GHD was seeking advanced Microsoft Excel training for a large team of compensation professionals, located across the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand, USA and Canada. Despite being experienced in Excel, most were self-taught and aware they were not using the program to its full potential. Large-scale benchmarking, data analysis and cost modelling are critical to staff retention, and GHD was keen to enhance their strategic skills in this area. Part of the challenge was to find a provider that could deliver two levels of training across GHD’s multiple time zones and geographical locations.

Our solution
CCE’s presenter liaised with several GHD staff to ensure the course content met their day-to-day challenges. All workshops started via Zoom at 7am Australian eastern time, allowing participants to attend from around the globe. Two facilitators delivered the Excel Level 2 and Excel Level 3 courses, which included real-life scenarios and a range of exercises that challenged the group to create complex formulas, work with Pivot Tables, consolidate data and more. The courses also covered various efficiency-building tips.

View profileThe outcome
At each workshop, GHD’s Compensation team was engaged by the facilitators to produce a large body of work while learning new skills. The team has noticed their productivity increase as a result of the training, along with a substantial decline in errors thanks to their ability to use more sophisticated formulas. A large number of team members initially thought they didn’t need to do the Level 2 training. However, all ended the training with fresh insights, and confidence they could address any knowledge gaps having completed both training levels.
The staff's increased competency and self-assurance after attending CCE workshops drove them to pursue additional training this year. Their ability to apply the learnings immediately and witness tangible benefits in their work has fuelled their commitment to continuous development.
"I thought after having used Excel for 20-odd years that I was pretty fluent. It turns out there is much more to learn. This course was particularly useful for our Compensation team, as the facilitator adjusted the content to our setting and even helped solve specific problems. The course was fast paced and never dull, and almost everything I learned was new to me."
- Renee Brennan Rewards Specialist Core Job Architecture, GHD
“Being a self-taught Excel user, I suspected there were many tips and tricks I was unaware of. This course not only taught me quicker and easier ways to do things, but also how to unlock wider Excel functionality so that spreadsheets work more effectively. The course was well-paced and the instructor very knowledgeable. I would recommend it to anyone who is familiar with basic or intermediate Excel and wants to learn more.”
