The challenge
When it comes to generating financial insights in accounting and finance, few tools are as valuable as Excel spreadsheets. However, top accountants must have skills that go far beyond mere additions and percentages. Our client, Pilot Chartered Accountants, had identified a need for their team to master more sophisticated Microsoft Excel skills and work more effectively with large volumes of data. These skills include advanced formatting to visualise business scenarios, PivotTables that enable data to be analysed from multiple perspectives, and macros that automate certain tasks. Seeking a quality course led by capable, knowledgeable instructors, Pilot approached CCE to ask about our professional development training in Microsoft Excel.

Our solution
Based on the team’s existing competencies, Pilot selected the Microsoft Excel Course: Level 2 and Level 3 as the basis for their training. Our facilitator modified the content to ensure the examples were practical and relevant to everyday scenarios faced by Pilot’s accountants. Delivered face-to-face in Brisbane over several days, the training covered topics including PivotTables, Lookup Functions and some key automation features such as macros. The Pilot team gained hands-on practice in importing data, creating ‘what if’ data scenarios, validating data, creating form controls, and other skills.

View profileThe outcome
Since the training, staff have demonstrated greater competence in using Excel to analyse data. Several staff stated that the workshops helped bridge the gap between knowledge they obtained at university, and the higher level of work they now undertake. Pilot Chartered Accountants is now incorporating CCE’s Microsoft Excel Course into its staff onboarding programs, to ensure all new team members have a minimum level of proficiency in Excel. Our client is a repeat customer at CCE and found great value in the training.
