Level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
This course will expand on the work covered from in French courses 101 to 103 (or equivalent). Your skills will be further developed through various class activities that will teach you how to use your language skills. This course focuses on topics such as survey questionnaires, French rituals and phone conversations. Grammatical and phonological elements are introduced as you work on your French speaking, oral comprehension, reading and writing skills.
Outcomes
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
- talk about past events
- complete a simple survey questionnaire
- engage in a simple phone conversation
- give advice
- describe a person’s physique.

- Understanding a questionnaire
- Talking about past events
- Participating in a market research activity
- Talking about French rituals
- Calling/answering the phone
- The imperative mood for asking advice
- Past tense (passé composé) to talk about past events
- Describing a person physically
- Giving information related to someone
- Asking questions (written and oral skills)
- Verbs -yer/-ir at present tense
- The reflexive verbs: present and past
- The pronoun on (1)
- Immediate past and near future
- Vocabulary for topics:
- annual celebrations in France
- travel
- social media
- people magazines
- Phonetic: questions, working on specific sounds and spelling of sounds
Intended audience
Suitable for A1 level students, those who have completed all levels of French up to 103, or who have completed 70 hours of recent tuition.
Delivery style
Delivered as a series of interactive workshops where active participation is encouraged. Each session is conducted in a friendly and relaxed classroom setting.
