If you want to learn to speak Italian, our Italian classes are ideal for adult learners to enjoy a practical and social experience while you learn Italian language and culture. Learn Italian the smart way with Italian courses at CCE, the University of Sydney.

This course is the second in the first year program and is suitable for those who have completed 101 or 20 hours of recent face to face tuition. It will expand on introductory material whilst covering topics including how to tell the time, give and receive directions and expressing oneself. Grammatical development is further emphasised through various speaking, listening and writing exercises.


Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  1. Tell the time.
  2. Reserve a room at a hotel.
  3. Give and receive directions.
  4. Describe people, places and various goods and services.
  5. Describe their activities during a day.


This course covers the following topics:

  • Describing people and places
  • Telling the time
  • Days of the week
  • Getting a hotel room
  • Giving and receiving directions
  • Basic skills for shopping
  • Describing your day
  • Introduction to using the past tense
  • Introduction to adjectives, noun-adjective agreement, prepositions of place, some adverbs, possessive adjectives
  • Verbs – passato prossimo, present tense reflexives


This course is delivered as a series of interactive workshops where active participation is encouraged.

This textbook is used for course Levels 101 to 104. It is based on a language learning through conversation method.

Based on Units 5-8 of the above text. The text is used for activities and forms the basis for consolidation and practice between meetings.
