Level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
This beginner's course will introduce the alphabet, greetings and introductions, and how to describe various daily activities. Some of these activities include arranging accommodation, transportation, shopping and ordering food and drink. No prior knowledge of the language is required.
Outcomes
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
- read the Greek alphabet
- read and write basic sentences in Greek
- extend your Greek vocabulary to enable communication of basic requests and responses
- exchange basic greetings in Greek, introduce yourself and others, ask and respond to questions about personal details such as name, nationality, family, work and pastimes
- describe family members and use appropriate phrases at social occasions
- ask for and give directions using a map of a Greek city or town
- use numbers in a variety of situations, shopping, and concepts of time
- order items in Greek from a Greek Taverna menu
- communicate in Greek when buying various items from a variety of stores using Euro currency, such as tickets, food or other items
- express your likes and dislikes using adjectives
- discuss elements of the Greek language and culture (eg learning appropriate phrases for social occasions)
- identify grammatical concepts in the Greek language including nouns (declension), verbs (conjugation – present tense), adjectives, articles and pronouns (personal and possessive).
