Level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

This course is ideal for preparing for travel, as you will learn basic greetings and introductions, how to express likes and dislikes, and travel by bus and train. Grammatical elements are also introduced as you start to work on your speaking and listening skills. Noun, article and prepositions use will be introduced as well as basic pronunciation, writing and reading skills. No prior knowledge of the language is required.

Outcomes

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • introduce youself and greet others at an initial meeting
  • order food and drink at a cafè or restaurant
  • describe your activities during the week and on weekends, ie leisure activities
  • express your likes and dislikes.

Content

This course covers the following topics:

  • greetings
  • introducing yourself and others
  • ordering in a café or restaurant
  • pronunciation and spelling
  • likes and dislikes
  • talking about free time and leisure activities
  • nouns - (singular and plural)
  • introduction to verbs including essere (to be), avere (to have), fare (to do or to make)
  • articles – definite and indefinite
  • introduction to prepositions.

Intended audience

Suitable for beginner A1 level students. No prior knowledge of the language is required.

Delivery style

Delivered as a series of interactive workshops where active participation is encouraged.

(ISBN 978-88-6182-354-9)

This textbook is used for levels 101 to 201. It is based on a language learning through conversation method.

Based on Units 1-3 of the above text. The text is used for activities and forms the basis for consolidation and practice.

Textbooks should only be purchased after confirmation is received from us. This usually occurs up to five days prior to commencement.

This is a ‘fast track’ option in which learning is accelerated with meetings twice weekly over four weeks.
