Mia is an experienced HSC marker and setter. She has been teaching or tutoring Science for more than 15 years, and was awarded the NSW Scientist of the Year for Leadership in Teaching and Learning in 2010. She has been Head of Science at International Grammar School and now works at a number of places including Ascham School, University of Sydney, University of Technology Sydney (UTS), NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), Association of Independent Schools (AIS), Crispy Coaching and RiskAssess. When Mia was a student, she came First in the HSC in Earth and Environmental Science. With qualifications in Correctional Management, Annie Sheerin has worked in excess of 15 years' supervising and managing offenders in Corrective Services NSW, with extensive operational experience in the role of Custodial Officer, Case Manager and Group Work Facilitator.
Annie commenced in the role of Senior Trainer with Brush Farm Corrective Services Academy (BFCSA) in January 2006 and was responsible for developing and delivering operationally focused training to custodial staff. In 2008 Annie was appointed Project Manager of the Correctional Supervisor Program which was developed to enhance the skills and knowledge of custodial middle managers. This course received exemplary feedback and continues to be offered by BFCSA as part of staff Professional Development.
Annie’s experience in respect to offender management in custody and the community led to her commencing in the role of Senior Learning and Development Facilitator with the Operational Community Programs Training Unit in January 2009. Since that time she has been developing and delivering operationally focused training in relation to offender management to a variety of operational staff including: Custodial, Community Corrections, Overseers and Services and Programs staff.
Annie has a passion for working with offenders utilising motivational interactions techniques. After re-developing the Motivational Interactions course in 2013, Annie has facilitated the course to CSNSW employees within the custodial environment and community corrections and has also travelled interstate to facilitate the course to other jurisdictions. Her high level of expertise has been widely recognised and she regularly attends conferences, such as a two-day workshop that was facilitated by William R. Miller, PhD in order to continuously develop her skills in this area.
Annie has a real passion for working with people and thoroughly enjoys the diversity of interacting with offenders and seeking opportunities to explore ambivalence and promote a professional partnership that assists to enhance opportunities for change talk.
