If you want to learn to speak Thai, our Thai classes are ideal for adult learners to enjoy a practical and social experience while you learn Thai language and culture. Learn Thai the smart way with Thai courses at CCE, the University of Sydney.

Suitable for those who have completed up to 402 or who have completed 345 hrs (or equivalent) of recent face-to-face tuition.


We will continue to develop conversation both formally and informally in a variety of experiences in different situations. We will continue to learn regional cultures and beliefs, brief news, current affairs, working and negotiating, and learning some idiomatic expressions. Students will continue to practice reading, comprehension and pronunciation in passages from various articles and media. Each reading has a new vocabulary list where unfamiliar words are introduced.

Please note the following outline is subject to flexible scheduling and reorder as well as additions.


  • northern region, festivals, local food and belief
  • contemporary issues
  • brief news, current affairs
  • more economic and business opportunity
  • working, negotiating using thaa, thaa haak, pen pai dai mai, yaak hai, yaak dai

Grammar/ structures

  • using more prepositions phua, samrap, hay, khun yuu kap, phrom thang
  • using “khuen” with adjectives and adverbs – dii khuen, geng khuen, rew khuen, yai khuen, ruay khuen
  • using “long” with adjectives and adverbs – cha long, lek long, noy long, yae long
  • more classifiers for everyday conversation phuen, phaen, muan, chin, kham, chabap, daam, met, lem, sen
