Chinese Mandarin Course 1031: Standard

Course summary

Level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

This course covers Integrated Chinese, Volume 2, Lessons 11 to 13(1), and is taught over ten weekly sessions of two hours per week.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • discuss around 90 vocabulary items and recognise about 110 Chinese characters
  • employ basic terms for weather patterns and phenomena
  • describe simple weather changes and compare two days’ weather
  • compare the weather of two cities
  • talk about what you might do in good or bad weather
  • present a simple weather forecast
  • ask if there are seats available in a restaurant
  • order Chinese dishes at a Chinese restaurant
  • ask the restaurant to recommend dishes
  • tell the waiter your dietary preferences and restrictions
  • rush your order
  • pay for your meal in Chinese and get the correct change after payment
  • ask for and give directions
  • identify locations by using landmarks as references.

Who this course is for

Suitable for A2 level students, those who have completed Chinese Mandarin 1022 or who have completed 80 hours of recent tuition.

Delivery style

Delivered in the form of an interactive workshop where active participation is encouraged.

Prescribed text

Both simplified and traditional character versions of the textbook and the two workbooks are available, however the simplified version will be taught in the classroom. You can also opt for the electronic version of materials.

While the textbook is required, the workbook and character workbook are optional.

All textbooks are available in 3rd and 4th editions. If you already own a 3rd edition copy, you're welcome to use it. If not, please purchase the 4th edition.

Textbooks should only be purchased once you receive confirmation from us. This usually occurs three days prior to class commencement.
