Latin Course 202 (Level 6)

Level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

This intermediate-level course introduces further Latin vocabulary and grammatical concepts through readings and exercises, while following the recommended text to allow easy reference and practice between sessions.


By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • translate extended passages of complex grammatical form
  • recognise and translate the various use of the subjunctive
  • form and translate new sentence structures using intransitive and impersonal verbs to express need or obligation
  • translate short edited passages of original Latin authors.


The course consolidates knowledge from material studied in earlier levels, and covers the following new grammar topics:

  • syntax and other: further uses of the subjunctive in subordinate clauses; use of the subjunctive in main clauses; uses of the conjunctions cum and dum; connecting relatives; impersonal verbs; intransitive verbs in the passive.

Intended audience

Suitable for B1 level students, those who have completed all levels of Latin up to 201 or who have completed 120 hours of recent face-to-face tuition.

Delivery style

This course is delivered as a series of interactive workshops where active participation is encouraged.

Students should study the upcoming material before each meeting and complete the set homework exercises. This is an essential part of learning and revising.
