A2/B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

Suitable for those who have completed all levels of Japanese up to 304 or 295 hours of recent face-to-face tuition.


By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • make a complaint about someone or something
  • apologise or respond to an apology
  • ask for an explanation or respond to one
  • make formal and informal invitations
  • create RSVP postcards
  • write an email
  • express modesty
  • express gratitude
  • apologise
  • introduce people
  • ask someone how the are
  • read and write vocabulary, using approximately 400 Kanji
  • read and write short sentences that include vocabulary, using approximately 400 Kanji.


This course covers the following topics:

  • complaining
  • making and responding to apologies
  • asking for and responding to explanations
  • formal and informal invitations
  • RSVP postcards
  • emails
  • expressing modesty
  • expressing gratitude
  • apologising
  • introducing people
  • asking how someone is doing.

Intended audience

Suitable for A2/B1 level students, those who have completed all levels of Japanese up to 304 or those who have completed 295 hours of recent face-to-face tuition.


Delivered as a series of interactive workshops where active participation is encouraged.
