This Adobe Photoshop Elements course encompasses everything from the absolute basics to advanced photo-editing techniques using this affordable editing powerhouse. Classes are structured around six, three-hour, face-to-face meetings, and 18 assignments that are delivered online and individually assessed between the monthly meetings. The flexibility of online delivery gives participants the best opportunity to fully comprehend and complete the course material however busy they might be during these months.

Finished assignments are submitted online for critique and feedback electronically. Further learning resources will also be available via Quicktime movies (either downloadable from Dropbox or handed out on USB sticks in class). Participants spend a good part of this course working on their own pictures, including developing a greater understanding of resolution, image size, retouching, cropping, composition, layers, high dynamic range (HDR) processing, RAW files, perspective correction, working with text, printing options, colour calibration, visual presentation techniques, and more.


Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  1. Sort, arrange and label their photographs into albums, folders and categories
  2. Keyword their photos for quick retrieval
  3. Identify the strong and weak points in RAW and JPEG images
  4. Identify the correct tools with which to make an improvement to unedited image files
  5. Make significant improvements to the brightness, contrast, hue, saturation and mood in any image
  6. Fix basic blemishes in any picture
  7. Replace and swap objects, and people, between one shot and another
  8. Retouch images like a professional by seamlessly removing or adding entire objects
  9. Correct all forms of optical distortion in a picture file
  10. Resize picture files to make them suitable for publishing, in print, or online
  11. Create complex digital illustrations using selections, montage and blending techniques
  12. Create a range of multimedia including: slideshows, greetings cards, and calendars
  13. Work with the text tools to create posters, letterheads and business cards
  14. Manage colour calibration issues ensuring that what’s onscreen is the same once printed

Delivery Style

This course is delivered in six, face-to-face, three-hour meetings and 18 assignments that are delivered online and individually assessed between the monthly meetings. Note: This class is relevant for the latest versions of Adobe Photoshop Elements.

Intended Audience

This Adobe Photoshop Elements training course is suitable for participants familiar with computer operation. Experience using photo-editing software would be an advantage, but is certainly not compulsory.
