Level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

This course will further develop your ability to read, speak, listen and write the language by covering themes including family and oneself, seasons and the weather, and comprehension of emails and letters from family and friends. It follows the content in the prescribed text for reference and practice between sessions.

Suitable for those who have completed all levels of Japanese up to 202 or 145 hours of recent face-to-face tuition.

Outcomes

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • talk about your involvement in the culture of another country
  • offer help to someone with a problem
  • discuss what to take for a picnic
  • talk about food you don’t know much about
  • greet a visitor arriving at the airport
  • introduce your colleague to a visitor
  • farewell a visitor at the airport using some parting phrases.

Content

This course covers the following topics:

  • talk about the language and culture of the country that you are interested in
  • read an event program
  • offer help to someone with a problem / accept an offer of help
  • ask / say what specific food or drinks your friend / you would prefer for a picnic
  • write a memo to say who is taking what for a picnic
  • comment briefly on the taste of food
  • talk about someone visiting your office on a business trip and the date of his/her visit
  • ask to use things in the office
  • read a business trip schedule
  • read a message from a colleague in an overseas office when you return home from a business trip.

Intended audience

Suitable for A2 level participants, those who have completed all levels of Japanese up to 202 or those who have completed 145 hours of recent face-to-face tuition.

Delivery style

Delivered as a series of interactive workshops where active participation is encouraged.
