If you want to learn to speak Japanese, our Japanese classes are ideal for adult learners to enjoy a practical and social experience while you learn Japanese language and culture. Learn Japanese the smart way with Japanese courses at CCE, the University of Sydney.

Suitable for those who have completed all levels up to 202 or who have completed 145 hours of recent face to face tuition. This course covers various methods of talking about and describing others. For example, you will learn how to express your concern for others health, talk about their previous activities and discuss changes in one’s health and life.


Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  1. Talk about travelling in Japan and Japanese cultural exchanges.
  2. Report the time, and press someone to do something.
  3. Gather information about what they want to do or where they want to go.
  4. Invite a colleague to go somewhere with them.
  5. Complain about their health.
  6. Show concern for the health of others.
  7. Talk about someone’s personal history.
  8. Give a detailed self-introduction.
  9. Talk about changes that have come to a town.
  10. Talk about an old acquaintance and how they have changed.
  11. Read and write vocabulary, using approximately 160 Kanji.
  12. Read and write short sentences that includes vocabulary, using approximately 160 Kanji.


This course covers the following topics:

  • Talking about travelling and the cultural experience
  • Reporting the time and pressing someone to do something
  • Gathering information about what you want to do or where you want to go
  • Inviting a colleague to go somewhere with you
  • Complaining about your health
  • Showing and expressing concern for the health of others
  • Stating or confirming the progress of preparations
  • Talking about someone’s personal history
  • Giving a detailed self-introduction
  • Talking about changes that have come over a town
  • Talking about an old acquaintance and how they have changed


This course is delivered as a series of interactive workshops where active participation is encouraged.
