Aims

This course aims to consolidate and develop knowledge previously gained and introduce more complex language structures.

Outcomes

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • make a request and answer in a formal way
  • express emotions according to the register language used
  • talk about yourself.

Communicative

  • Frame a fact in a past century
  • Report an event or an historical fact
  • Argue and discuss your point of view in an informal context
  • Express yourself clearly and courteously in a formal register
  • Communicate a wish or intention
  • Exchange complex information and advice about your work
  • Describe someone physically and characteristically
  • Complain

Grammar

  • Verbs with prepositions
  • The adverbs of time: ‘so’, 'one day'
  • Indirect discourse: resumption and enlargement (the indirect discourse introduced by di)
  • Numbers as nouns
  • Use of the conditional to express an uncertain news
  • The expression ‘not because’ + subjunctive
  • The indirect question phrases
  • Use of subjunctive in related phrases
  • Use of subjunctive with relative superlative
  • The difference between ‘finally’ and 'eventually'
  • The gerund with causal and hypothetical function
  • The timing: the conditional with the subjunctive

Intended audience

Suitable for B2 level students, those who have completed all levels of Italian up to 403 or who have completed 370 hours of recent face-to-face tuition.

Delivery style

Delivered as a series of interactive workshops using a communicative approach whereby you are encouraged to use the language through group work and pair work, as well as being exposed to the language through guided video and audio work followed by discussion and practice. Each session focuses on one or more language topics/grammatical points and is conducted in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

This textbook is used for levels 403 to 502. It is based on a language learning through conversation method.

Based on Units 3 – 5 of the above text. The text is used for activities and forms the basis for consolidation and practice.

Selected Language courses that teach spoken language may include use of language immersion (course instruction in the selected language) as part of the training strategy.

Features
