Level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)


This course aims to consolidate and build upon the knowledge gained in previous courses in relation to the development of speaking, oral comprehension, and reading and writing skills. This course focuses on topics such as shopping for food and eating in a restaurant. More complex grammatical structures and vocabulary will be introduced in order to expand language skills.


By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • go shopping and buy food
  • choose a restaurant
  • place an order at the restaurant
  • express your opinion about food and services
  • share memories
  • compare a previous situation with a current one.


This course covers the following topics:

  • shopping for everyday needs
  • characterising food products
  • understanding an announcement for a show
  • offering/choosing the location for an evening in town
  • ordering, expressing your satisfaction/dissatisfaction in a restaurant
  • understanding a short presentation in order to choose a restaurant
  • cultural and technological adjectives
  • talking about quantities with precision
  • pronoun en
  • place of the qualitative adjectives
  • negative ne…plus
  • restriction ne… que
  • imperfect tense/present tense
  • comparing with nouns and adjectives
  • vocabulary for topics: “department stores”, “payments methods”, “gastronomy”, “memories”, "city and countryside"
  • phonetic: the three nasal sounds, pronunciation of plus, pronunciation of specific sounds.

Intended audience

Suitable for A2 level students, those who have completed all levels of French up to 203 or who have completed 170 hours of recent face-to-face tuition.

Delivery style

Delivered as a series of interactive workshops where active participation is encouraged. Each session is conducted in a friendly and relaxed classroom setting.
