Level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

This course aims to consolidate and build upon the knowledge gained in previous courses in relation to the development of speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. This course focuses on topics such as friendship, personal characteristics and professional experience. More complex grammatical structures and vocabulary will be introduced in order to expand your language skills.


By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • talk about friendship
  • describe the character of a person
  • quote someone’s words
  • talk about positive changes
  • recount an encounter with someone
  • talk about your university experience
  • talk about your professional experience.


This course covers the following topics:

  • relative pronouns: qui, que, à qui
  • structures to give a definition: c’est quand, c’est + nom + proposition relative
  • past tense: le passé composé avec être et l’accord du participe passé
  • indirect speech (present tense)
  • the imperfect tense (morphology) and the present tense for comparison
  • grammatical structures for comparison
  • some irregular past participles
  • past tenses: le passé composé et l’imparfait
  • time markers
  • past tense: le plus-que-parfait
  • adverbs: formation of regular and irregular adverbs (-amment /-emment)
  • vocabulary for topics
    • study
    • professional experience
  • phonetic: pronunciation of adverbs (-ment)
  • pronunciation of -en.

Intended audience

Suitable for A2 level students, those who have completed all levels of French up to 203 or who have completed 170 hours of recent face-to-face tuition.

Delivery style

Delivered as a series of interactive workshops where active participation is encouraged. Each session is conducted in a friendly and relaxed classroom setting.
