Level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

This Arabic course further explores the grammatical structure of the Arabic language and continues to develop your vocabulary skills through various reading, writing and speaking exercises.


By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • recognise the past tense agreement
  • recognise the root and pattern agreement
  • use the root dictionary
  • employ additional basic expressions
  • increase your vocabulary by an additional 1500 words
  • communicate using simple phrases and sentences to discuss family and friends, and what they did on the weekend
  • write simple sentences and find specific information in simple everyday material.


This course covers the following topics:

  • Family and friends
  • The weekend
  • Finding information
  • Forming questions
  • The third form of the present tense
  • Infinitive verbs
  • Prepositions and pronouns

Intended audience

Suitable for A2 level participants, those who have completed all levels of Arabic up to 201, or those who have completed 120 hours of recent tuition.

Delivery style

Delivered as a series of interactive workshops where active participation is encouraged.

Prescribed text

Al-Kitaab Fii Ta Callum Al-cArabiyya: A Textbook for Beginning Arabic: Part One(3rd Edition) by Abbas Al-Tonsi, Kristen Brustad & Mahmoud Al-Batal, Georgetown University Press, ISBN: 9781589017368.

Based on chapters 8 and 9 of the above text. The text is used for activities and forms the basis for consolidation and practice between meetings. Additional supplementary resources will also be provided to cover general topics.

Textbooks should only be purchased after confirmation is received from us. This usually occurs up to five days prior to commencement.
