Georgina Luscombe

Georgina Luscombe is Associate Professor of Rural Health at The University of Sydney School of Rural Health. Her research supports the rural health research agenda, with a focus on innovative rural service delivery models, rural health workforce development and health issues directly impacting rural populations. Working in collaboration with the Western NSW Local Health District, her research and evaluation work aims to improve health services and public health policy and practice.
Georgina has a broad range of expertise in medical and allied health research, particularly in the design and implementation of research with community organisations and clinicians. She strives to achieve fairer participation of Aboriginal people in healthcare and in health research and believes that privileging of Indigenous ways of knowing will lead to improvements in health for Aboriginal people.
Josto Luzzu

Josto was born in Sardinia, Italy. He graduated from Rome University in Chinese studies, holds a Double Master’s degree in International Relations from Peking University, and in International History from the London School of Economics. He is currently undertaking his Ph.D. in Gender and Cultural Studies at the University of Sydney.
Josto first taught Italian in Italy to migrants as a volunteer. Teaching Italian soon became his passion and he decided to consolidate his knowledge through an intensive course for teaching Italian as second language and obtaining the second level of the DITALS certificate. Josto then spent several years' abroad teaching in China, England, Laos, and Australia.
Josto has numerous interests which include figure skating, camping, reading, travelling and playing piano. He speaks four languages and believes that learning a language is a journey of discovery. His classes are set up to guide students through this journey, in a humorous, relaxed and creative environment, where they can explore and map their linguistic improvements through numerous activities and games.

Professor Colin Mackerras AO has written and lectured widely on Chinese history and contemporary China, particularly its culture and ethnic minorities, including a study of Xinjiang’s main ethnic group, the Uighurs. During more than 30 years at Griffith University he contributed greatly to Asian studies throughout Australia. Dr Maestri completed a PhD in Translation Studies (Italian, English and French) at the University of Bath, U.K., in December 2011. She is now EUOSSIC Erasmus Mundus Research Postdoctoral Fellow in European Studies at the University of Sydney. Dr Maestri is also a visiting Lecturer in Translation Studies at the University of the West of England, Bristol, U.K., where is currently supervising MA dissertations in Translation and Gender as well as Film Subtitling. Dr Maestri has worked as a Lector in Italian at the University of Oxford, U.K., and at the University of Bath and as a Lecturer in Translation Studies at the University of Portsmouth, U.K. She was also a tutor in Italian at the University of Bristol and for the MA in Interpreting and Translation at the University of Bath. Dr Maestri lectured on a number of Italian writers such as Primo Levi, Italo Calvino, Natalia Ginzburg, Giovanni Verga as well as Italian Pulp fiction. Dr Maestri has published a number of book chapters on translating autobiographical writing into Italian and French and articles in refereed journals. One of them has achieved a second place in the R.H. Gapper Postgraduate Essay Prize competition run by the Society for French Studies in 2011. She is also in the process of publishing her PhD thesis. Shira is a motivated and experienced Hebrew teacher with a B.A. (Hons) in Communication and Media studies with a major in radio broadcasting and a professional Hebrew teaching certificate.
Since moving to Sydney three years ago, Shira has taught a variety of groups and individuals, both children and adults, of different levels. Her main focus is on conversational Hebrew, as well as the use of both proper written and spoken grammar and reading comprehension.
During her B.A. studies, Shira tutored students in Hebrew as well as volunteering as a Hebrew teacher for people with special needs. Her work history includes being an academic researcher, education consultant, a content creator and a researcher in the Israeli educational television as well as working at a news channel.
The Hebrew language fascinates Shira and she is passionate about teaching this ancient and unique language while holding a student centred approach.
