This HSC Legal Studies examination preparation course will offer you an opportunity to hone your examination skills in order to maximise your chances of success. This course provides consolidation of the knowledge and skills in the course (including the themes and challenges) and key concepts and terminology. There will be a focus on the higher order thinking skills needed to push student achievement into Band 6. The latest developments in the changing legal system in relation to the HSC Legal Studies course will be covered, enabling you to have knowledge about the legal system that is current. You will receive HSC style examination questions and marking guidelines covering the whole course and guidance and tips for answering the questions.
This is an end of year exam preparation course preceded by a three-part series covering key areas from within this subject’s syllabus. Other courses include HSC Legal Studies Preparation (Part 1), HSC Legal Studies Preparation (Part 2) and HSC Legal Studies Preparation (Part 3).
Outcomes
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
- consider typical examination questions and possible answers
- develop your skills with regards to answering multiple choice, short answer and extended response questions
- evaluate the effectiveness of the legal system in addressing issues and achieving justice
- locate, select, organise, synthesise and analyse legal from legislation, cases, media reports and international instruments and documents
- communicate legal information using well-structured and logical arguments
- analyse differing perspectives and interpretations of legal information and issues.
Content
Legal Studies Stage 6 Syllabus 2009 Part I of the Core: Crime; Part II of the Core: Human Rights; Part III: Examination techniques related to the Options.
Part I: Crime
1.2.3.4.5.6. The nature of crime, the investigation process, trial, sentencing and punishment, young offenders and international crime.
Part II: Human Rights
1.2.3. The nature of human rights, promoting and enforcing, and a relevant contemporary issue investigation.
Part III: Examination techniques related to the Options

HSC Legal Studies students.
Delivery style
This course will be delivered using a combination of lecture style presentations about Legal Studies examination techniques and activity-based sessions using past HSC Legal Studies examination papers and marking guidelines.

- a course booklet covering the latest developments in the legal system in relation to the HSC Legal Studies course and HSC Legal Studies examination technique
- past HSC Legal Studies examination papers and answers.
