Level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

This course aims to consolidate and improve your knowledge through the development of speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, further to those gained in previous courses. More complex grammatical structures will be introduced in order to improve all essential language skills.


By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • use appropriate vocabulary to enquire about hotel room availability
  • give directions to go to places and to streets within a city
  • comment on travel destinations
  • write a travel diary
  • talk about the weather
  • discuss the preferences for visiting cultural events
  • speak about favourite books
  • use the newly introduced and revised grammatical structures more confidently.


This course covers the following topics:

  • at the hotel (grammar: indirect questions, prepositions gegenüber, an... vorbei, durch; vocabulary: hotel bookings, directions how to get to place)
  • travel and traffic (grammar: local prepositions am Meer, ans Meer; vocab: travel options, directions)
  • weather and climate (grammar: verbs and prepositions sich interessieren für, prepositional interrogtives worauf, wofür; vocabulary: weather words, describing climate)
  • cultural events (grammar: local prepositions vom/aus dem)
  • books and press (grammar: modalverbs in simple past).

Intended audience

Suitable for A2 level students, those who have completed all levels of German up to 204 or those who have completed 195 hours of recent face-to-face tuition.

Delivery style

Delivered as a series of interactive sessions where active participation is encouraged. Each session is conducted in a friendly and relaxed classroom setting.
