A2/B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

Suitable for those who have completed all levels of Japanese up to 402 or 345 hours of recent tuition.


By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • express the decision of a choice made by many
  • indicate how a certain change has taken place
  • talk about something that you manage or get by without doing
  • talk about something that someone does too much
  • indicate that something has been done with a great deal of trouble
  • talk about a situation you cannot do due to social or moral reasons
  • indicate the purpose of your action
  • indicate a source of information
  • read and write vocabulary, using approximately 480 Kanji
  • read and write short sentences that includes vocabulary, using approximately 480 Kanji.

  • Writing emails and letters

At university

  • Asking questions politely
  • Asking for advice
  • Giving advice

At a restaurant

  • Ordering food
  • Honorific form of verbs
  • Quoting what you obtained through secondary sources

Intended audience

Suitable for A2/B1 level participants, those who have completed all levels of Japanese up to 402, or those who have completed 345 hours of recent tuition.


Delivered as a series of interactive workshops where active participation is encouraged.

An Integrated Approach to Intermediate Japanese, Revsed Edition (Textbook and Workbook)
Based on chapters 4 to 6 of the above text. The text is used for activities and forms the basis for consolidation and practice.
