Prepare for HSC English the smart way with HSC English preparation courses at CCE, the University of Sydney.

This is a great resource for last minute revision and preparation for HSC Standard English with a teacher experienced in marking HSC English examinations. The course covers Papers 1 (Area of Study) and 2 (Modules A-C) of the Standard course. It provides students with the key elements of each Section, and what the examiners are looking for in successful HSC responses. Students polish critical analysis skills with the opportunity to ask questions about Prescribed and Related Texts and exam techniques. Past examination papers and examples of high-achieving student HSC responses and marker feedback from previous years are a major part of the course in order to prepare for the final examination with confidence.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

  • Revise and polish their knowledge and skills most important to successful HSC Standard English responses.
  • Revise and polish the key concepts for each section of the two English papers.
  • Revise and polish critical analysis of texts and what it involves and how to do it.
  • Ask questions about their texts and about exam preparation and responses.
  • Study past HSC examination papers, student responses and marker feedback to see practical examples of how students may achieve at a high level.

Content

  • 1.2.3. Analysing texts in relation to composers, responders, text and context, and polishing relevant writing skills.
  • 1.2.3.4.5. Polishing analysis of complex texts in relation to style, structure, medium and language.
  • 6.7.8. Revising critical analysis of texts in relation to context, identity, society, values and different perspectives.
  • 9.10.11.12.13. Polishing individual critical evaluation and argument through collaborative learning, polishing writing skills, and studying previous examination papers and answers.

Delivery Style

The course will use a variety of learning activities to cater for different learning styles. These will include lecture style presentations, audio/visual material, interactive discussion of relevant texts, sample HSC questions and answers, analysis of past student responses and opportunities for students to ask questions about the topic. What worked for past top/Band 6 students will be provided, with advice about learning the course material and study techniques. These lessons will incorporate both group and individual student participation, as well as teacher reading and comment on student writing.

Materials

Students will receive all the materials they will need for the course. This will include a course booklet containing extracts and a second booklet with previous questions and answers.

Course Evaluation

This course will be evaluated via an online student questionnaire delivered in class.
