Level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

This course will focus on topics including education, expressing gratitude and apologising, asking for permission and giving permission, leaving messages, giving orders, and expressing wishes. Suitable for those who have completed all levels of Japanese up to 303 or 270 hours of recent face to face tuition.


By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • talk about education
  • ask for permission to do something
  • talk about what you wish your spouse/partner would do
  • greet people and introduce people
  • express gratitude
  • apologize politely
  • leave messages
  • give and repeat orders
  • talk about events
  • engage in conversation with friends
  • read and write vocabulary, using approximately 360 Kanji
  • read and write short sentences that includes vocabulary, using approximately 360 Kanji.


This course covers the following topics:

  • talking about education
  • asking for permission to do something
  • talking about what you wish your spouse/partner would do
  • honorific expressions (1): Greeting people; introducing people
  • honorific expressions (2): Expressing gratitude
  • honorific expressions (3): Apologising
  • leaving messages
  • giving and quoting commands
  • talking about events
  • engaging in conversation with friends.

Intended audience

Suitable for A2 level students, those who have completed all levels of Japanese up to 303 or those who have completed 270 hours of recent face-to-face tuition.


This course is delivered as a series of interactive workshops where active participation is encouraged.
