Lucy Liu

Lucy Liu is a current PhD candidate in interpreting and translation studies and holds a master’s degree in Linguistics. She was a lecturer at the Dalian University of Technology where she had taught Chinese to speakers of other languages since 2007. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, she also worked as a Fulbright Language Teaching Assistant at Union College New York in 2010 and 2011.
Lucy has taught Mandarin Chinese to learners at all levels, from absolute beginners to advanced learners. Lucy is a certified teacher of higher education institutions by the Ministry of Education, P.R. China. She applies various teaching approaches to provide a highly engaging and supportive learning environment for her students. She consistently receives excellent feedback from our students.
Xinmin Liu

Liu Xinmin received his PhD in Chinese Language from Fudan University in 2001, China. He is a professor and the director of Chinese Department in International Cultural Exchange School at Fudan University. Liu is currently a Chinese teacher of Confucius Institute.
Dr. Liu has been working as a teacher of TCSOL (Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages) for over 20 years and have many experiences of teaching Chinese language in both China and other countries. He was invited to work as a Chinese Lecturer in Germany (Free University of Berlin), Japan, South Korean and Singapore for many times. As an expert of Confucius Institute Headquarters, Liu has also been involved in the training of Chinese teachers in Sweden and Singapore.
Dr. Liu’s research interests include Modern Chinese Language and Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (TCSOL) and he has published many books and articles in these areas. His major publications include: Language and Language Teaching (Ningxia People’s Press, 2005); The Research of Sentence Generation of Modern Chinese Language (East China Normal University Press, 2005); Researches on Chinese Word Order from '80s (Language Teaching and Linguistic Studies, No.5 2001); An Experimental Study on Word Association and Word Extraction in the Mental Lexicon of Korean Chinese Language Learners (Chinese Language and Chinese literature, No 56, 2013)
Ari Lobel

Rabbi Dr. Ari Lobel is currently serving as a lecturer in the Department of Hebrew, Biblical and Jewish Studies at the University of Sydney. He left Sydney straight after completing high school at Moriah College and moved to Jerusalem where he spent almost a decade (1986-96) studying at various academic institutions, including the Hebrew University and Aish Hatorah College of Jewish studies (where he taught for a number of years). While in Jerusalem, Rabbi Lobel also received his rabbinical ordination. He then moved to Baltimore, USA to continue his studies and eventually completed both a Master of Liberal Arts (MLA) at Johns Hopkins University and a PhD in Talmudic Law at Ner Israel Rabbinical College. While in Baltimore he worked as a writer, editor and translator for the ArtScroll translation of the Talmud and Mishnah, as well as serving as Editorial Director for an Encyclopedia of Biblical Law.Maria Lobytsyna

Originally from Moscow, Maria Lobytsyna graduated from Moscow University where she wrote her thesis on Gogol. She has taught Russian Literature at Moscow University, Syracuse University (USA) and Melbourne University. Maria’s publications in Russian, English and Dutch journals include articles on 18th-19th Century Russian and English literature. Maria has a Bachelor of Arts, First Class Honours, from Moscow University, a Master of Philosophy in Russian and English Literature from Glasgow University and has recently been awarded her PhD from the University of Sydney for her thesis on Laurence Sterne and Russian culture.David Lockwood

Currently working for the University of New England as online tutor, Livio Loi (BA (Hons) Italy, PhD (Wollongong NSW)
), born in Italy, graduated at the University of Cagliari (Italy) with a thesis on the verse of English poet Edwin Muir. Specialised in Italian and English modern literature, has a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature. High school teacher (foreign languages and literatures) in Italy from 1985 to 2005, worked as Italian government lecturer from 2005 to 2010 teaching advanced Italian language and Italian culture at the Universities of New England, Armidale NSW, and the University of Wollongong NSW.
Research interests include modern Italian literature, transnational Modernism, visual arts, women writers, Haiku poetry, cinema. Has published on Italian modern poetry in US and UK literary journals.
Anna Long

With an innate creative flair and background in fine arts, Anna Long commenced her career in graphic design. Within this environment her skills flourished to also take on interior and product design. These diverse skills have enabled Anna to work across various aspects of the industry gaining invaluable international and local experience.
Anna has worked for leading Italian, British and Australian companies in graphic, interior and industrial design roles. Her interior design career was further enhanced with an Italian Government scholarship to undertake a Masters in Interior Architecture (Politecnico, Milan)
Anna’s design company has completed a wide range of interior design projects that have attracted wide recognition and publication. Her work has received numerous Interior and Industrial design awards.
Anna’s extensive art and design knowledge and interest in education and children led her to set up ‘La Scuola Creative Learning’, a combined Art and Italian Language program, where by students develop their linguistic skills in a creative, fun and stimulating environment.
Andrew Longhurst

Andrew Longhurst has completed a Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology), a Graduate Diploma in Counselling and a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment. Having worked for over 10 years with adults who have disabilities Andrew has developed the strong people skills and is comfortable in his ability to relate to people from a range of different backgrounds as he assists them to reach goals they have for their life.
Andrew’s understanding of Vampires on the other hand, has been built on a strong foundation of exploring their depiction in literature, movies and television.
He suspects that if ever he was to meet an actual Vampire his communication skills would fail him and he would be left speechless, defenceless, and ultimately a very tasty snack. He hopes that his involvement in ‘Vampires Unleashed’ will equip him with the skills to stay alive long enough to be rescued by Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Maria Lorenzo Fernandez

Maria started tutoring English speakers when she started her degree in Journalism, Media & Communications in Sevilla, Spain. The majority of her students came from Ivy League Universities in the United States and went to Sevilla to have a bilingual experience. Her cross-cultural awareness and expertise began to develop earlier when she was awarded with a scholarship to study English at Oxford and continued throughout her first years at University when she completed part of her degree at Cardiff University, in Wales. Maria loves Linguistics and Grammar. One of her main priorities is to explain concepts in a fun way, not only through theory but with practical activities in class.
Maria is passionate about the Spanish language, the culture, the food and the amazing places you get to explore by speaking this language. There is no class where she does not tell you a story or a bad joke you can use to keep on learning or memorising new vocabulary. Maria is also a certified translator by NAATI and is used to translating English into Spanish. She finished her first degree at the University of Sydney and completed her double Masters in Translation, Interpreting and International Relations at Macquarie University together with her Global Leadership Program practicum.
Carolyn Loton

Carolyn Loton has a wide range of practical marketing, sales and business development skills gained through her own strategic marketing consultancy and her previous work at some of Australia’s largest consumer goods companies, including Simplot Australia, Goodman Fielder and Nestle. She has worked in both sales and marketing roles on many market-leading brands including Nanna’s, Herbert Adams and 4N’20 Pies, Edgell, Leggo’s, Birdseye, Uncle Tobys and Country Cup. Her original background was in the health sector.
In 2006 Carolyn founded Juntos Marketing. She now works with a range of small, medium and large businesses in both the product and services sectors to develop practical marketing plans, systems to improve marketing efficiencies and implement marketing activities effectively.
Her clients include Lush Handmade Cosmetics, The Cancer Council NSW, EDAW AECOM, NSW Department of Industry and Investment, Promotional Sampling//5iveSenses and Nestle Australia. Carolyn holds a Master of Business Administration from Edinburgh University, as well as a Diploma in Marketing and Bachelor of Applied Science. She is an active member of the Marketing Women Association, and a regular mentor in their mentoring programme.
