Level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

This course aims to consolidate and improve knowledge through the development of speaking, listening, reading and writing skills beyond which has been gained in previous courses. More complex grammatical structures will be introduced in order to improve all essential language skills.


By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • prepare an event brochure
  • discuss Germany’s recent history
  • speak about and comment on historical events of the 20th century
  • discuss the advantages of riding bicycles versus driving cars
  • express opinions about environmental issues
  • make statements about how to save energy
  • make predictions about the future and what life might be like 50 years from now.


This course covers the following topics:

  • concerts and events (grammar: conjunctions indem/sodass)
  • Germany’s history (grammar: passive perfect and simple past)
  • the environment and climate (grammar: conjunctions statt/ohne…zu, statt/ohne dass)
  • the future and vision (grammar: conjunctions damit, um..zu, als ob).

Intended audience

Suitable for B1 level students, those who have completed all levels of German up to 402 or those who have completed 345 hours of recent face-to-face tuition.

Delivery style

Delivered as a series of interactive sessions where active participation is encouraged. Each session is conducted in a friendly and relaxed classroom setting.
