Level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

Aims

The aim of this course is to consolidate and improve knowledge through the development of speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, further to those gained in previous courses. More complex grammatical structures will be introduced in order to improve all essential language skills.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  1. Make emotional comments and talk about their happiest moments.
  2. Prepare invitations to work functions.
  3. Use appropriate language to avoid miscommunication.
  4. Discuss and investigate educational opportunities.
  5. Prepare job applications.
  6. Use the newly introduced and revised grammatical structures more confidently.

Content

This course covers the following wellbeing related topics:

  • Proverbs relating to the topic of health
  • Facts about chocolate
  • Dietary habits and shopping behaviour in Germany
  • Food waste: conscious shopping and cooking choices
  • Laughter is the best medicine: the health benefits of humour and laughter
  • Daily biorhythm
  • Stress: how to reduce it

Intended Audience

Suitable for B1 level students, those who have completed all levels of German up to 304 or who have completed 295 hours of recent face-to-face tuition.

Delivery Style

The course is delivered as a series of interactive sessions where active participation is encouraged. Each session is conducted in a friendly and relaxed classroom setting.

Based on Unit 3 of the above text and its corresponding exercise chapter. The text is used for activities and forms the basis for consolidation and practice. Additional study material will be provided throughout the course.

Note: Students will be required to purchase this exact version – Volume 1 of the textbook (Chapters 1-5 including exercise material). This textbook is also available as a full version (Chapters 1-10) without the “Arbeitsbuch” (exercise book).
