Level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

Aims

The aim of this course (second of level B1) is to consolidate and improve knowledge through the development of speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, further to those gained in the previous A2 courses. More complex grammatical structures will be introduced in order to improve all essential language skills.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  1. Utilise new vocabulary on the topics covered below.
  2. Engage in simple dinner party ‘small talk’ conversations.
  3. Express and discuss the pros and cons of having a pet.
  4. Make statements about job related preferences.
  5. Prepare a professional presentation by using appropriate vocabulary and terminology.
  6. Articulate disappointment about passed opportunities.
  7. Use the newly introduced grammatical topics confidently.

Content

This course covers the following topics:

  • Dinner parties: professional and private (Grammar: conjunction falls)
  • Pets: the pros and cons (Grammar: sentence structure with Infinitiv mit zu)
  • ‘Finding your perfect profession’ (Grammar: conjunctions da, während, bevor)
  • Healthy lifestyle options (Grammar: adjective declension – comparatives/superlatives)
  • Missed opportunities (Grammar: past tense subjunctive)

Intended Audience

Suitable for B1 level students, those who have completed all levels of German up to 303 or those who have completed 270 hours of recent face-to-face tuition.

Delivery Style

This course is delivered as a series of interactive sessions where active participation is encouraged. Each session is conducted in a friendly and relaxed classroom setting.
