Level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

This course (first of level B1) aims to consolidate and improve your knowledge through the development of speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, further to those gained in the previous A1 and A2 courses. More complex grammatical structures will be introduced in order to improve all essential language skills.


By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • utilise the new vocabulary in relation to the following content topics
  • express and discuss your own views and ideas on topics covered in class
  • write reports, work-related emails, complaints
  • make predictions about the future by using the ‘future tense’.


This course covers the following topics:

  • friendships (grammar: adjectives as nouns, n-declension nouns)
  • employment (grammar: Past Tense - Präteritum)
  • living situations (grammar: relative clauses using the dative case, prepositions)
  • customer service (grammar: conjunctions: obwohl and trotzdem)
  • the future/visions (grammar: Future Tense).

Intended audience

Suitable for B1 level students, those who have completed all levels of German up to 302 or those who have completed 245 hours of recent face-to-face tuition.

Delivery style

Delivered as a series of interactive sessions where active participation is encouraged. Each session is conducted in a friendly and relaxed classroom setting.
