Level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

Suitable for those who have completed all levels up to 302 or 245 hours of recent face to face tuition.

Aims

This course (first of level B1) aims to consolidate and develop knowledge, speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, further to what has been gained in the previous A1 and A2 courses. It also aims to introduce more complex grammatical structures in order to improve all essential language skills.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  1. Utilise the new vocabulary on the above topics.
  2. Express and discuss their own views and ideas on topics covered in class.
  3. Characterise people’s attitudes and traits.
  4. Comment on statistics, describe and analyse diagrams and graphics.
  5. Negotiate complaints in a customer service context.
  6. Use the newly introduced future tense confidently.
  7. Express predictions about the future.

Content

The course covers the following topics:

  • Friendships, character traits (Grammar: adjectives as nouns)
  • Employment and job history (Grammar: revision of simple past)
  • Can your work be your passion? (Grammar: relative clauses in the dative case, dative prepositions)
  • Customer Service (Grammar: conjunctions such as obwohl/trotzdem)
  • Future and Technology (Grammar: future tense – Futur 1)

Intended Audience

Suitable for B1 level students, those who have completed all levels of German up to 302 or those who have completed 245 hours of recent face-to-face tuition.

Delivery Style

The course is delivered as a series of interactive sessions where active participation is encouraged. Each session is conducted in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
