Jessamine Chen


Jessamine Chen is a clinical psychologist and the Head of the Anxiety Treatment and Research Unit in the Department of Medical Psychology at Westmead Hospital. She completed her undergraduate training in psychology (with Honours) and Master of Clinical Psychology at the University of New South Wales. She is currently completing her PhD thesis on the cognitive and physiological mechanisms of pathological worry in Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD). Her research findings on GAD have been presented at major national and international conferences.

Jessamine has specialised in the assessment and treatment of child and adult anxiety disorders for over 7 years, and has been actively involved in anxiety disorders research. She is currently the principal investigator for a prospective study examining the long-term effectiveness of CBT for anxiety disorders in a community outpatient setting. She has been involved in the development, revision, and facilitation of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy programs for transdiagnostic treatment of anxiety disorders (including GAD, Social Anxiety Disorder, Illness Anxiety Disorder, and Specific Phobia), Hoarding Disorder, and Panic Disorder with Agoraphobia. She practices clinical psychology in English and Mandarin.

Jessamine is committed to the teaching and training of evidence-based psychological treatment. She has been involved in the training and supervision of intern clinical psychologists for the past 6 years. She has also been an invited lecturer for the medical student seminar series run through the Department of Psychiatry at Westmead Hospital and the University of Sydney.
