George Carayannopoulos


Dr George Carayannopoulos is an experienced executive, researcher, consultant and author in organisational coordination and crisis management. He has been an affiliate of the Bushfires and Natural Hazards Research Centre and has published a book Disaster Management in Australia which analysed Australia’s two largest natural disasters over the last decade the 2009 Victorian bushfires and 2011 Queensland floods. Through his research he has been involved with senior leadership at the government and emergency management authority level including agencies such as Emergency Management Victoria and Emergency Management Queensland.

George has an extensive background in developing and delivering strategic projects and initiatives aimed at improving organisational performance and coordination. He has strong policy development and analysis skills aimed at translating research into applied contexts particularly with regard to crises and natural disasters.

He is a regular presenter at conferences, workshops, seminars and has appeared on a number of major media mediums including the BBC, SBS and radio as an expert commentator in the wake of crisis events.
