Bernie Tuch

Dr Bernie Tuch has been Director of the NSW Stem Cell Network since its inception in 2002. He is also a practising endocrinologist and a professor of medicine at both the University of Sydney and Monash University.

Bernie’s team, then at the Prince of Wales Hospital, created two human embryonic stem cell lines, under licence from the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia, and these are being used in research to assist in developing therapies for diabetes, cardiac defects and neurological deficiencies.

Dr Tuch is an active member of the Sydney Jewish community and was a former president of Mount Sinai College, the Jewish day school in Maroubra.

We acknowledge the tradition of custodianship and law of the Country on which the University of Sydney campuses stand. We pay our respects to those who have cared and continue to care for the Country.
