Masaki Shibata


Masaki Shibata studied his Bachelor degree from Kansai Gaidai University (Kansai Foreign Language University) in Japan, and Masters in TESOL and Applied linguistics in Marshall University, the U.S. Currently, he is working on his PhD in the school of Media and Arts at the University of New South Wales. His research is specified to linguistic features of criticism and negotiation used in political context and the comparison of Japanese political discourse to Australian and American contexts. He is also working on written discourse such as academic book reviews to explore how criticism and negotiation are manifested in Japanese and English academic contexts.

As a Japanese language instructor, he taught elementary and advanced Japanese language at Georgia State University and taught elementary Japanese at Georgia Institute of Technology. He also has been working in international Japanese school for two years in the U.S., teaching bilingual children general subjects such as mathematics and Japanese language.

Besides language education, he has also been a swimming coach for over 10 years in Japan, the U.S. and Australia.
