  • The quintessential qualities – what it takes to be a travel writer (curiosity, motivation, discipline, adaptability, frugality)

New York

  • Choosing your story – the right subject matter, travel trends, researching your story.

Rome

  • Tools of the trade – what constitutes good travel writing?
  • Putting a structure to your story (beginning, middle & end)
  • Bringing your story to life through dialogue, details and characters

Sydney

  • Opportunity for the class to do some travel writing exercises, both individually and as part of a group.

Delivery Style

Delivered utilising course notes which the tutor will expand upon in class. There will be an audio-visual component highlighting travel writing in script format such as Lonely Planet City guides.

Before the course

No assumed knowledge is necessary, however some travel experience around Australia and/or overseas would be beneficial to utilise as material to write about in class.
