Semiconductor Digital Implementation Concept and Tool Training
New Education and Training Model (NETM) Upskill now with industry-led microcredentials.
A semiconductor or silicon chip is a physical product designed to manage and control the flow of current in electronic devices and equipment. Semiconductors are the foundational elements of modern computing and are responsible for powering nearly every electronic device we use on a day-to-day basis. Their rapid growth in performance and integration density resulted in the birth or exponential growth of new industries such as 5G communication and artificial intelligence (AI).
This microcredential will build on the skills and experience developed through the completion of the microcredential Semiconductor Business Processes, Integrated Circuit Processes and Devices, and Integrated Circuit Packaging, developing deeper theoretical and practical skills in a suite of software and packages at the digital integrated circuit synthesis and implementation phase of semiconductor design.
This microcredential is the third in a series of three courses that covers the three phases of semiconductor design (system, logical and physical), digital design verification and digital implementation. The courses develop skills in hardware description language (HDL) coding principles and practices and includes applications using Cadence electronic design automation tools.

Cadence Design Systems
Our semiconductor microcredentials have been developed in partnership with Cadence Design Systems, a pioneering company with more than 30 years of expertise.
Aims
This course aims to develop in-depth technical and practical skills in a suite of software and packages at the digital synthesis and implementation phase of semiconductor design. It includes practical applications using industry standard electronic design automation tools, and insights from industry professionals and academic experts.
Outcomes
By the end of this microcredential, you should be able to understand and use a range of software and packages at the digital synthesis, implementation, and sign-off phase of semiconductor design.
Content
This microcredential is divided into six modules. Each module is made up of a combination of online lectures and discussions, and practical exercises using the Cadence design software accessed through a virtual lab. Key topics that will be covered are set out below.
- Â Basic Static Timing Analysis
- Â Genus Synthesis Solution
- Â Innovus Implementation System
- Â Tempus Signoff Timing Analysis
- Â Conformal Equivalence Checking
- Â Conformal Low Power
Intended audience
This microcredential is designed for individuals who are living or working in the Western Parklands City area, who are either currently employed or seeking to enter (or re-enter) the labour market. It assumes completion of the microcredential Semiconductor Business Processes, Integrated Circuit Processes and Devices, and Integrated Circuit Packaging or equivalent knowledge.
Prerequisites
The microcredential assumes that you have completed, or are completing, the microcredential Semiconductor Business Processes, Integrated Circuit Processes and Devices, and Integrated Circuit Packaging, or have equivalent knowledge and experience with Cadence software.
Delivery style
Online
All course materials and activities will be accessed through the University’s learning management system, Canvas. There will be some live classes and opportunities to attend live discussions with your cohort. All live classes will be recorded allowing participants to work at their own pace through the material.
Materials
All course materials will be provided electronically.
Volume of learning and course credit
This microcredential will involve a volume of learning of approximately 100 hours of student effort. You may be eligible to receive credit of up to two thirds of a standard unit of study (0.125 EFTSL) in a relevant award course if you successfully complete all assessment tasks.
Digital badge and certificates
On successful completion of the microcredential assessment tasks, you will be issued with a University of Sydney digital badge to recognise your achievement. You can share your secure digital badge with your networks on social media platforms.
