Come along and learn how to capture and edit vertical marketing videos for Snapchat, TikTok and Instagram using a smartphone.

Smartphones and social media platforms have created a revolution in the ways in which we watch and interact with content. Highly engaging vertical video is the foundation of platforms such as Instagram, in both Instagram Stories and the new feature Instagram Reels. Snapchat and TikTok present new opportunities and challenges for businesses, allowing customers to reach and interact with their customers.

This course will teach you how to capture and edit vertical video on a smartphone and apply different tools and interactive features to the content to suit each platform. We will investigate the rise, strategy and impact of vertical video. We will also explore the unique features and audiences of Snapchat, TikTok and Instagram where vertical video content is the dominant form of media consumed.


We want you to leave this course knowing how to create effective marketing videos for social media and how to incorporate these into your marketing strategy.


By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • create engaging vertical videos using the camera and native features of Instagram Stories and Reels, Snapchat and TikTok
  • edit vertical video and adapt videos to a vertical format using smart phone editing apps
  • use strategies like gamification and Augmented Reality (AR) to amplify your campaigns and improve customer engagement
  • use and access AR tools to customise your vertical video and campaigns
  • describe the insights of each video platform to track the engagement and performance of your videos
  • incorporate vertical video marketing into your existing marketing plans to reach new audiences
  • create and plan a vertical video marketing strategy.

No prior video editing or content creation experience is necessary, however you will need a smartphone with Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok accounts.

Delivery style

Delivered as a practical presentation and workshop, supported by recent case studies and live examples.

Delivery options

  • Presenter-taught training on your own device, on University premises.
  • Online training via the platform Zoom.

Face-to-face classes

You are required to bring your own device (Windows or Mac). You should ensure your device is fully charged as access to power is limited. Please note that University does not carry any responsibility for your lost, stolen, or damaged devices whilst on the University premises.

Online classes

If you are attending an online course via Zoom, you will need your own device with internet access.

Please make sure you bring your smartphone that has Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok accounts set up/logged in.
