B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

This intermediate-level Japanese course is suitable for those who have completed all levels of Japanese up to 503, or 470 hours of tuition.


By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • discuss the development of technology in Japan
  • talk about loan words and katakana words
  • make a request
  • express gratitude
  • talk about team spirit that is learnt through sport
  • talk things over with someone
  • read and write short sentences that include vocabulary, using approximately 640 Kanji.

Intended audience

Suitable for B1 level participants, those who have completed all levels of Japanese up to 503, or those who have completed 470 hours of recent tuition.

Delivered as a series of interactive workshops where active participation is encouraged.

Based on Chapters 3 and 4 of the above text. The text is used for activities and forms the basis for consolidation and practice.

Lessons 9 is also covered.
