If you want to learn to speak Italian, our Italian classes are ideal for adult learners to enjoy a practical and social experience while you learn Italian language and culture. Learn Italian the smart way with Italian courses at CCE, the University of Sydney.

This course aims to consolidate and develop knowledge previously gained at all levels of Italian instruction, and work towards developing fluency in the use of Italian language (at C1 level). Suitable for those who have completed all levels up to Italian 404 or who have completed 395 hours of recent face to face tuition.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  1. Understand ideas and concepts expressed in Italian across a spectrum of settings when expressed in an explicit way.
  2. Participate in active guided discussions on various topics including current affairs.
  3. Express opinions about aspects of Italian culture such as specifically chosen pieces of film, less difficult literature and Italian music.

Content

This course provides focal points for engagement and discussion which include:

  • Italian culture (small extracts of film, specially selected literature and music)
  • Italian society
  • Current affairs topics

Short film clips, less difficult passages from literature, newspaper or magazine stories, blogs etc. provide the opportunity for engagement in a highly interactive environment. These will be explained, repeated and examined to aid in comprehension with guided discussion in Italian.

Preparation of written work and its presentation is also part of the expected participation of students.

Grammar will be revised as needed.

Delivery

This course is delivered as a series of interactive workshops where participants are encouraged to use the language through contribution to class engagement activities, group work and pair work. Participants will also be exposed to the language through guided film, music, literature and audio work, followed by discussion and practice. Sessions focus on one or more discussion topics and are conducted in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Materials

There is no prescribed textbook for this course.

Please Note

Selected Language and Culture courses that teach spoken language may include use of language immersion (course instruction in the selected language) as part of the training strategy.
