Strong leadership skills are essential to team members at all levels – especially for any organisation looking to create adaptive, agile teams, with enviable team cultures. Leaders play an important role in guiding organisations and fostering a workplace culture that makes a team thrive. Team members that are empowered to develop leadership skills are more likely to perform at their best; improving team happiness and organisational success.

This interactive two-day program invites you to explore your own leadership edge and how you can more fully assume your role as a leader through purposeful and skilful action.

The course begins with the concept of self-leadership. This concept is concerned with identifying your workplace personality – cultivating your attributes and becoming aware of your leadership weaknesses. The course then proceeds to topics including leading others, leading teams and leading culture. Each is a vital and dynamic element of contemporary leadership theory and practice, and will help you excel within your current team environment, no matter your current role.

This course is for you if you are an emerging leader, have leadership aspirations, or want to become better acquainted with the latest trends in leadership theory and practice.

Aims

The aim of this course is to arm you with a broad understanding of your own role as a leader and how you might help guide your organisation to higher performance, while increasing your own authentic application in the role.

Outcomes

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

• discuss insights and action into your own leadership capability
• assess the stages your team is at and determine the appropriate action
• practice skills to influence and manage challenges
• further develop your skills to effectively manage tasks and people
• actively build and contribute to an effective organisational culture.

Content

Leading self

This portion of the course aims to help you identify your workplace and leadership ‘personality’. By better understanding yourself and your attributes as a leader, you can work to optimise your personal leadership strengths and also work to improve your weaknesses.

To help better understand your personal leadership style, this course utilises The Leadership Circle assessment tool (TLC). This tool gives insight into the underlying assumptions you hold on leadership, and highlights how these translate into both the unproductive and productive aspects of your leadership behaviour.

Prior to commencing this course, you need to take the TLC assessment. It will take 20 to 30 minutes to complete. Once you have completed the assessment you will be able to log in and download your results. Please do the assessment only once and bring your results along to the course.

Results from The Leadership Circle (TLC) assessment will guide thinking and discussion on this section of the course.
