Learn Chinese in Sydney with Chinese classes at the University of Sydney. This Chinese course covers Integrated Chinese Level 1, Part 2, Lessons 1 to 2/3 and is taught over 2 hours per week in one session.

Course content

This Chinese course covers the following topics:

  • Talking about the Weather, Dining, Asking Directions.
  • Introduces the verb 来 (lái), the dynamic particle 过 (guo), comparative sentences with 比 (bǐ) and 没(有) (méi{yǒu}), 那么 (nàme) indicating degree, the adverb 又 (yòu, again), adj/ v + 是 (shì) + adj / v, + 可是/但是… (kěshì/dànshì…), 一 …也/都…不/没… (yì...yě/dōu...bù/méi), adverb 多/少 (duō/shǎo) + v, 刚 (gāng) vs 刚才 (gāngcái), 到 (dào) + place + 去 (qù) + action, 一…就… (yī...jiù..., as soon as...then...)
  • Resultative complements, reduplication of verbs and adjectives, direction and location words.

Prescribed text

Both simplified and traditional character versions of the textbook and the two workbooks are available, however the simplified versions will be taught in the classroom. Students can also opt for the electronic versions of the Chinese course materials.

The Textbook is required for this course, while the Workbook and Character Workbook are recommended, but optional.
