Course summary
This HSC Exam Preparation course provides a wonderful opportunity to polish your examination skills and maximise your chances of success.
This workshop focuses on identifying strategies for solving HSC Mathematics Advanced examination questions. It will include a review of relevant questions from past HSC Mathematics Advanced examinations, as well as examination papers from other educational jurisdictions.
The facilitator will provide guidance on examination techniques and strategies to help maximise results. Students will practise interpreting questions and planning responses, and will have the opportunity to ask topic-specific questions, as well as receive individual assistance and advice.
Other courses in this series include HSC Mathematics Preparation Course - Advanced (Part 1) (January), HSC Mathematics Preparation - Advanced (Part 2) (April) and HSC Mathematics Preparation - Advanced (Part 3) (July). You do not need to attend all parts in order to benefit.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
- critically evaluate your own and others’ mathematical arguments to refine the accuracy and structural quality of responses in assessment tasks
- decode the specific mathematical language of examination questions to better understand the steps for a quality solution
- identify the relationships between key areas of mathematics in order to solve complex problems
- execute strategic pacing and time-allocation techniques to optimise your performance under formal examination conditions
Content
Questions presented will be from the Mathematics Advanced (2024) HSC syllabus. It consists of the following syllabus references:
- Further graph transformations and modelling
- Sequences and series
- Differential calculus
- Integral calculus
- Applications of calculus
- Random variables
- Financial mathematics
Prerequisites
Students should have completed the Year 11 Mathematics Advanced course and should currently be studying Year 12 Mathematics Advanced.

This course is suitable for students studying Year 12 Mathematics Advanced.
Delivery style
Delivered as a one-day, activity-based workshop, this course will explore and apply mathematical knowledge and skills through a combination of lectures, tutorials and problem-solving sessions. Practice exercises are reviewed, and you will receive immediate feedback. Past HSC exam-style questions will be explored and completed both individually and collaboratively in groups.

- a course booklet including theory and worked examples
- examination and study advice and tips
- a selection of relevant HSC examination questions from recent years, as well as from other educational jurisdictions, with sample answers.
